Welcome to Week Six of Quarantine Bible Study!

We were going to be studying Trustworthy by Lysa Terkeurst in our women’s Bible study at church this month.  I found a free YouVersion app study of Trustworthy and that will take us through five days of study this week.

You can join the study HERE.

The study is published by LifeWay…you can find it HERE.

And HERE is Lysa Terkeurst’s website.

Ready to get into God’s Word?  Let’s go!

Day 1 : Will God Come Through For Me?

Today’s study is called “Will God Come Through For Me?”

 Lysa asks us to consider:

1. List out any evidence where you’ve experienced the faithfulness of God

2. Pray God will show you the idols in your own life

3. Ask that you will be able to clearly hear God’s message of hope and start to build a heart of trusting Him even more.

Lysa says “I know God’s trustworthy in general – I just wonder if He’s going to come through for me personally.”

2 Kings 17:9-15 is the scripture and it ends on vs 15 with “they followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.” In the message version it says “they lived a “nothing” life and became “nothings”

Proverbs 3:5&6 says “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.”

The scriptures mentioned today are 2 Kings 17:9-15 and Proverbs 3:5-6

Here is the Lysa Study book (that we will not be using but I did show you and mentioned)

Day 2: The Unraveling

Taken from the devotional today: “What things in our life are we clinging to that may be in opposition to God’s instruction?”

Lysa continues with: “I don’t think anyone wakes up and says “I’m not going to make a total mess of my life today. I plan to purposefully ignore all the wisdom God has given me, sin like crazy, and ruin all that I hold dear……..I think the unraveling of a life starts slowly……..For all God had provided Solomon, he still experienced deep distrust in God. Solomon’s decision to cling to his wives is evidence of his distrust that God could be the source of his salvation.”

Deut. 7:6 Do this because you are a people set apart as holy to God, your God. God, your God, chose you out of all the people on Earth for himself as a cherished, personal treasure.”

Scriptures mentioned in today’s study are:

Deuteronomy 7:3-6

1 Kings 11:1-13

Day 3: Taking Matters Into My Own Hands

Challenge from Lysa: Where might I be more concerned with protecting myself than remaining true to God’s way?

Lysa writes: “Do I park my mind on a worst case scenario and determine the only way to keep this from happening is to take things into my own hands?….What have you taken into your own hands before?  You probably didn’t realize you were taking control at the time, but looking back, what comes to mind?”

Scriptures mentioned today are:

1 Kings 11:29-39

1 Kings 12, 25-33

Day 4 : Good Intentions, Poor Motivations

Challenge from Lysa : “Is there an activity or belief you hold that began with the right intentions but the motivation has become something else?”

Lysa continues: “Instead of heeding the words of God, Solomon’s son Jeroboam, out of fear, came up with his own plan…This makes me take a step back and feel very challenged int he deeper motivations I have.  No matter who we are and what our callings are, we influence other people…..Friends influence friends.  Moms influence kids.  Bosses influence employees  Our words influence those following us on social media.  Big and small, we cause some sort of chain reaction with the influence we have.”

Lysa encourages us to look at:

our Job

Social Media

Bible Study

Lysa wraps up with “It’s easy to start out with great intentions but over time have our real motivation get tainted.  Is there an activity or belief you hold that began with the right intentions but the motivation has become something else?”

Scriptures mentioned are: 1 Kings 12:25-33

Today’s study reminded me of our You Are The Girl For The Job study that we began our 2020 year with.  Back in January we discussed what/who we had influence over and I would encourage those who have done that study to look back at what we learned with Jess.  If  you have not checked out that book, You Are The Girl For the Job, I would highly recommend it. Here is another article kind of talking about what Jess taught us.

I mentioned this Emily P Freeman video I watched recently.

This video doesn’t talk about influence so much as it does finding what your passion is.  In finding your passion, you also find where you can influence most.  And if nothing else, it’s a good video to watch.

Day 5 : Why, God?

Here are some attributes of God we can bank in declaring He is trustworthy:

  • Unchangeableness
  • Wisdom
  • Knowledge
  • Righteousness
  • Peace

Which one of these attributes speaks most deeply to your heart right now? – asks Lysa.

From the devotional: “C.S. Lewis said, “Relying on God has to begin all over again every day all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.”  (From C.S. Lewis, Words to Live By: A Guide for the Merely Christian, ed. Paul F. Ford, Adobe Digital Edition (HarperCollins ebooks, 2009), 291.) “When we rely on God daily, we can experience the fruit of trust.  Scripture outlines a variety of outcomes that will come about as we make the decision to declare our God is trustworthy rather tan determine whether or not He’s trustworthy because of our circumstances.”

I love that.  I love that so much.

Our scripture today is Isaiah 26:3&4

People with their minds set on you,
    you keep completely whole,
Steady on their feet,
because they keep at it and don’t quit.
Depend on God and keep at it
because in the Lord God you have a sure thing.

All the things.  I love all the things with this. Our God is worthy of our trust, it’s SO SIMPLE and it’s so so so hard, isn’t it?  But it takes the faith we have to every day, as C.S. Lewis reminds us.  Every.  Single.  Day.  We are either growing or falling, one or the other.  This little path we are on called our Journey With God is a tight one, but so worth it.  It’s daily work.  But so worth it.

Because in our God, we have a sure thing.

I showed you how to look up a word and study it from the Bible.  As stated a lot lately, I just picked up an (in)courage Bible.  Here is a link if you want to check it out.

(And PS me smiling and freeze framing for the camera totally did NOT work, just in case you wanted to know. ;) )

And that wraps up week 6 of our Quarantine Bible Study!  Next week we will wrap up all together.  I’ll bring you a study from my (in)courage Bible and we will study that together in the upcoming week.  But then these daily videos will end, because at that time, our Quarantine should  (please oh please oh please oh please!) be letting up.  See you next week!
