Confession: I do not know my super heros.

I know Mighty Mouse, Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Batman and Robin.  But I don’t know their back stories.  I don’t know much of anything.

I DO have a Wonder Woman coffee mug.  It’s really awesome and has glitter in the W.

Alicia, who I work with at the library, is ecstatic because for the Summer Reading Program this year the theme is Super Heros.  She tells me games we can play with the kids and all the fun we can have and then she looks at me and sees the total dumb look on my face.

“Captain America?” she asks me.

I shrug.

“Aqua Man?”

“Is he on the Incredibles?”

She wants to bang her head on her desk.  It only adds to her bewilderment at my lack of knowledge when our friend Korene stops in at the library and can name all the characters and if they are Marvel or whatever the non Marvel guys are.

The fact that I am writing this much about the super heros is because the conversation is fresh in my mind.

The same week that this conversation happened, Becca posted a photo of her phone case that was some Avengers something or another.  But what I noticed is her cute hair cut.  So on her instagram photo I said, “I love your hair!  But I have never watched the Avengers.”

A few days later, a package arrived at my door.  The note basically said this: “You HAVE to watch the Avengers.  How could you have not watched them before?  I apologize in advance for what your boys will do after watching the Hulk.”

S4 picked up the movie and looked it over.  “Is this appropriate for us?”

Because, thanks to my lack of knowledge of all things super hero, my boys lack any knowledge of all things super hero.

I might add here we also know nothing of Star Trek.

However, if you want to know about Little House on the Prairie (the books, not the TV show), the boys and I are here for you.

Anyhow, Saturday night the movie is picked out.  The Avengers.

Who is YOUR favorite Super Hero character?  Why?

You make me smile! I enjoyed your post. Growing up my siblings and I loved to play superheroes in the backyard. Flash was one my favorites (he can run super fast). We even had the action figures. I loved watching Super Friends, Wonder Woman, Batman & Robin, and Gi JOE (good military American heroes) . Though I can tell you all about the classic heroes, and even everything about the Teenage Mutnant Ninja Turtles…I know little to nothing of the current heroes. We haven’t seen the Avengers either. There is just something about the classic heroes that trump the newbies, and I think they always will. Take heart Denise. Summer is coming and you will be the champ of superhero knowledge by the time it ends!

Flash for you – that makes perfect sense (even if I don’t know who on earth that is, but the running thing – haha!)
