My husband does not like to read. Well, he likes to read facebook and give people a hard time. But he married me. Me who loves books. Who he calls a “book nerd”. Me who feels it is mandatory for the boys to find a love of reading.
He doesn’t get it.
With us spending a lot of time indoors with this winter to beat all winters, we have been listening to a lot of audio books. The entire “ebook library” we have at our library is so helpful because as soon as we finish a book, I just download another. It’s not as fun as being all snuggled up together reading a book but it does allow the boys to play and I get more things cooked for them to devour all while listening to a book.
Earlier this week we finished Heidi. All of Heidi in like three days. I am always trying to throw “girlie” books in there for the boys. They were rather taken with Peter and his goats.
Then we finished Brian’s Winter.
There is complete and absolute silence when a Brian book is on. They actually would take this one with them wherever they went to finish it off quickly.
My husband was lamenting the fact that there is knee deep snow everywhere and he desperately needs to get more wood cut for us. “I don’t know how I am going to get out there to get it!”
“I know how!” I cheerfully exclaimed. “We JUST read about this in Brian’s Winter. First you need to have a big enough bow to shoot a moose.”
“Yes, a moose. Then you cut of strips of the hide and get yourself some willow branches and then you make yourself snow shoes. They should only take you about two days. Then you can go anywhere to get wood. That’s what Brian did.”
He shook his head and walked away.
Here I am being all helpful and he gives me that “You are so crazy nerdy” look.
Ah, but I know he loves it.
