Memorial Day always makes me tear up.
When you think of all that has been sacrificed for our freedom, it is sobering.
“Home of the free because of the brave” is said so lightly and yet it means ever so much.
In our little town, it seems most of the town comes out for a parade. We all make our way to the Veteran Memorial where we have a special service. The men, all the old men who long ago fought far away and all the men retired and all the men who are home on leave step up and say where they served. There is a reverent silence at that time.
Always there is a song.
So often, a song can hit you hard. Sometimes a song can stick with you and say more than pages of words ever could.
Our friend, Steve Vaus, is going to be releasing a new patriotic album this summer.
This week he released a song, A Soldier Died Today. I encourage you to listen to it and keep it in mind as you travel to the town parades, barbecue with friends, enjoy a day off. In the hustle of the holiday, please don’t forget why we celebrate this day. Please do not forget to tell your children the reason we have a Memorial Day holiday.
Thank you to all who have served and are saving. I could never say thank you enough.
